- Abstract
Researchers in China have identified the major cause of vibration-induced structural damage in metro vehicles. Mechanical and structural failures in metro vehicles are often caused by vibration, which acts as a catalyst for underlying faults within the vehicle's structure. The researchers have developed a technique to identify these underlying failures that can lead to abnormal vibration. They found that the interaction between fasteners and the track is the main cause of abnormal vibrations, and by modifying the track's composition, these vibrations can be mitigated. This research provides engineers with important information on how to build tracks to prevent damage from abnormal vibrations in metro rail vehicles.
