- Abstract
The article discusses the Rollright Stones in Oxfordshire, England, Neolithic (c. 2800-2000 BCE) stone monuments that are called the King's Men, the King Stone, and the Whispering Knights, though the King's Men is the author's primary focus. A description is provided of the arrangement of the stones, their possible significance as a burial place, the moss and algae that grow on them, and the temperature of the rocks. Other topics include folklore as a form of oral history, folk tales, archaeology, rituals involving the stones and pork feasts, and the difficulties of writing about art history.
