- Abstract
With the adoption of Islam as the official religion of the Karahan state by Satuk Buğra Han, the influence of Arabic on Turkish increased. Arabic Alphabet was started to be used in addition to the Uighur Alphabet and many Arabic words firstly related to religious life and then to cultural, social and daily lives were adopted into Turkish. In this study, it would be emphasized that feminine-gender words borrowed from Arabic were occasionally used in Ottoman Turkish and Turkey Turkish but they could not be permanent. Besides, an attempt would be made to explain the reasons of this situation. To this end, a list of words whose feminine and masculine forms were used for women and men in Ottoman and Turkey Turkish was created and these words were reviewed in the Ottoman Turkish and contemporary Turkish dictionaries as well as various works. Usage levels of these words were monitored.
