- Abstract
The Traditon of Changing Some Names with Religious Meaning in Turkish by Using Suffixes: The names of people are important materials that give us clues on the character of the person who has given the name, his /her tastes, tendencies, philosophy of life, the structure, culture, traditions and customs of the society he/she lives in and his/ her language. In the Turkish name-giving culture, there is an interesting practice of changing some religious names by the use of suffixes. The tradition of changing names of religious origin with the suffix "-lI" is interesting with regard to the fact that it shows the variation of giving names in the Turkish society, the role of religion in the name giving culture and the multiple functionality of the suffix.
