- Abstract
The article discusses a study of the mechanism leading to the formation of black lithium tantalate (LiTaO3, LT) single crystals by means of chemical reduction of regular congruent LT wafers. X-ray diffraction, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy and Curie temperature and density measurements were used to characterize crystal samples. The study found that the basic LT structure is not affected by chemical reduction and that the formation of black LT wafers is a result of the Ta charge state change influenced by chemical reduction.
