- Abstract
Indigenous peoples have emphasized the need to ensure Indigenous pedagogies are respectfully structured within schools. Canadian schooling has been destructive in the lives of Indigenous communities. The Truth and Reconciliation Commission of Canada report called upon all to recognize the need for truth telling and ongoing commitment in institutions across Canada. This paper emerged from my experiences learning from Elders and is framed through Indigenous Research methodologies. The paper reflects a collaboration with Elders through dialogue on the role they feel they can have in schools. Findings support the need for wholistic educational practices within schools that reflect Indigenous philosophies.
