- Abstract
Identity and labor market success are two factors, which are relevant for the estimation of social integration. How do they corresopond, how do they depent one on each other? Three discussion papers of the Institute for the Study of Labor (IZA) in Bonn have a fo-cus on this topic. They deal with the influence of ethnic identity on the labor market situation of migrants in Germany. On the basis of a model that derives from social psychology ethnic identity is differentiated in four regimes The regimes are: assimilation, integration, separation and marginalization. The "ethnosizer" than makes visible and gaugeable ethnic identity. Using the classification of the four regimes, the influence of ethnic identity to the performance of migrants in the labor market shall be explained. Some specific findings were made: assimilation for example is not necessarily an advantage over integration. But some contradicitons and inaccuratenesses could be located in the surveys as well. These will be discussed thoroughly in the final chapter of this paper.
