- Abstract
The article discusses the visit of Joseph Scotton Elkinton and Joseph S. Walton, two Quakers from the Quaker organizing body the Orthodox Philadelphia Yearly Meeting (PYM), to members of the Mennonite Lancaster Conference in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania in 1887. It presents excerpts of Elkinton and Walton's accounts of their travels and provides brief biographical overviews of both men. Topics of their writings include practices of foot-washing, experiences of Mennonites in the Shenandoah Valley during the U.S. Civil War, and the Indian Training School in Carlisle, Pennsylvania.
