- Abstract
The article reports on the role of glycans and glycomics in the discovery of serum biomarkers. Glycan are polysaccharides which are involved in tumor progression, from cellular proliferation to metastasis. They can also be used to diagnose and monitor cancer progression. Glycan profile in several breast cancer lines showed that similar breast cancer cell lines have the same oligosaccharide profiles. Thus, glycans were considered DNA and protein complements in early cancer diagnosis.
