- Title
Building Bone With a SOST-PTH Partnership.
- Authors
Sims, Natalie A.
- Abstract
The article focuses on the SOST gene, which protein product sclerostin has paved the way for a major advancement in bone biology. Kramer and his colleagues conducted an experiment which revealed that during a parathyroid hormone (PTH) anabolic action, a significant part was played by sclerostin. They also found that in the treatment and measurement protocols they used, there was a significant increase in trabecular thickness and mineral apposition rate after the PTH treatment, which was discovered to be less effective with high presence of sclerostin.
