- Abstract
Objectives: Pleural hydatid is very rare. Pyopneumothorax caused by rupture of pleural hydatid is also very rare. Here we present one such rare case. Study design: Clinical note. Material and methods: A 35 years aged female suffering from pyopneumothorax for one month, was referred to our tertiary referral hospital. USG of right hemithorax, CT scan of thorax was done after base line investigations of blood and chest X-ray. Cyst removal followed by decortication was done under general anesthesia by right thoracotomy. ¦ Results: Chest X ray showed right sided hydropneumothorax, USG of right hemithorax showed echogenic material in right hemithorax. CT scan of thorax showed right sided hydropneumothorax and features of ruptured hydatid cyst like airbubble sign, double wall and multiple daughter cysts. Histopathology showed lamination suggesting ruptured hydatid cyst. Conclusion: Though pleural hydatid is very rare, it may be the rare cause of pyopneumothorax
