GETTING FAITH OUT OF THE GUTTERS: RESOLVING THE DEBATE OVER POLITICAL CAMPAIGN PARTICIPATION BY RELIGIOUS ORGANIZATIONS THROUGH FISCAL SUBSIDIARITY.
- Authors
Afield, W. Edward
- Abstract
The article discusses the proposal for the self-directed tax to resolve debates on the Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code (IRC) which bans the political campaign participation of tax-exempt organizations, particularly churches and religious organizations in the U.S. The self-directed tax would increase the amount of political campaign activity of the organizations. Moreover, it would permit the organizations to direct the government on how to allocate the proceeds of the tax.
