- Abstract
Standards and codes that govern the inspection of industrial components require the techniques selected for use to be calibrated using well-established methods. For ultrasonic techniques making use of data collected using the full matrix capture method to be accepted for use in industry, the methods by which the inspection system are to be calibrated must be well defined. This paper outlines the essential components of an ultrasonic system used for the inspection of a standard butt weld and presents the methods for calibrating the system where the techniques are based on the full matrix capture data. The calibration methods are developed to be as generic as possible in order to be widely applicable to techniques using full matrix capture data.
