- Title
THE FAR SIDE OF FREEDOM: TORAH AND AUTONOMY.
- Authors
Wasserman, Michael
- Abstract
In this article, the author explores the relation between faith and freedom in Judaism. The author discusses the conflict between spiritual grounding and intellectual autonomy and between the meaning provided by faith and the liberty to think for oneself. He explains the conflict as a defining dispute of modernity. He also offers ways to balance freedom and belief. In addition, the author observes that faith and freedom are deeply integrated, in ways that tend to be perplexing to a modern mind.
