- Title
Uncanny Transactions and Canny Forms: Rosamund Marriott Watson's Märchen.
- Authors
O’BRIEN, LEE
- Abstract
A literary criticism of the poetry collections "Ballads of the North Countrie" and "Bird-Bride" by Rosamund Marriott Watson (Graham R. Tomson) is presented. The author shows Watson to be a modernist in the Victorian society of fin de siècle London, England. Writing märchen, a romantic folk ballad form, Watson used the language of the English-Scottish border to explore the fantasy world of fairies. The author finds her work innovative and indicative of the significance of female Victorian poets.
