- Abstract
The article discusses the environmental and economic values of World Heritage sites in Japan. It cites the negative environmental consequences of tourism at the Yakushima Island natural heritage site. Also discussed are several methods of environmental valuation for the Yakushima site, such as the replacement cost method, travel cost method and contingent valuation.
