- Abstract
This article discusses a rare case of an intratumoral abscess in a glioblastoma, a type of brain tumor. The patient, a 54-year-old male farmer with type 2 diabetes, presented with symptoms of left-sided weakness and altered mental status. Magnetic resonance imaging revealed a tumor with areas of necrosis, hemorrhages, and edema. During surgery, a significant amount of pus was drained from the lesion, and the tumor was partially removed. The pus culture showed Salmonella typhi, a bacteria associated with typhoid fever. The patient's condition improved postoperatively, and a diagnosis of glioblastoma was made. The article also mentions that this is the first reported case of Salmonella typhi within a glioblastoma. The authors suggest that diabetes and changes in the tumor microenvironment may have contributed to the abscess formation.
