- Authors
Delofski, Maree
- Abstract
The article focuses on Maree Delofski's television documentary film "The Trouble with Merle." The film is about Merle Oberon, the Hollywood star of the 1930s and '40s that explores various competing stories and claims that are made by various groups for her ethnicity and nationality. One of the ironies of the stories out of Tasmania is that they returned Oberon to the circumstances the studio had attempted to disguise with regard to illegitimacy, mixed race, and poverty. Discussions about the film's background and scenes are also presented.
