A biography of Dominique Jean Larrey, a naval surgeon, is presented. He was born on July 8, 1766 in Beaudéan, in the Pyrenees, France. Larrey became chief surgeon of the Army of Italy in 1794, where he met political leader Napoleon Bonaparte. He was decorated with the Legion of Honour and made a baron in 1804. France postally honoured Larrey with a Red Cross Fund stamp in 1964.
