- Abstract
The authors reflect on the problem of parental mental illness, focusing on children whose parents are affected by mental disorder. Highlighted is the considerable growth of knowledge and evidence about the extent of the condition and the progress of intervention programs to address the needs of affected families. The authors stress the importance of a family-focused multidisciplinary approach by general practitioners, mental health workers and the community in the prevention of mental illness.
