- Title
Poetry on MTV?
- Authors
Low, Bronwen
- Abstract
The article explores on poetry expressed through spoken words or slam verse. It is said that slam verse went mass-market in the early 1990s as MTV and Much Music began to televise performance poetry. The article also discloses that the spoken word holds important lessons for curriculum on how contemporary youth communicate and express themselves. It is also stated that the practice is thought of as a counter-literacy outside the formal practices of literacy, pedagogy and curriculum, evolving out of exclusion, necessity and improvised pleasure.
