- Abstract
The article investigates the use of the Bible in the drama "The Way of the World" by William Congreve. Topics include Congreve's response to Collier's charge regarding the uses of Scripture by dramatists in his 1698 "Amendments of Mr. Collier's False and Imperfect Citations," comments on biblical allusions that occur through the scene between lovers Fainall and Mrs. Marwood in Act III, and the allusions to Hebrews 13:4 of Marwood's and Fainall's declarations that marriage is honourable.
