- Abstract
This paper presents a modified theoretical model for determining the load carrying capacity of reinforced concrete slabs. Based on the force and moment equilibrium requirement at the yield-line section, a new stress failure criterion was established to explain the failure mode of crushing of concrete. The effectiveness of the present model was validated through satisfactory comparison with results from experiments and other theoretical simulations. Unlike the previous studies, the model can reasonably interpret why for the similar reinforcement the square slabs always fail at a lower vertical displacement compared with the rectangular slabs.
