A literary criticism is presented of the 1635 play "La vida es sueño" ("Life is a Dream") by Spanish dramatist and poet Pedro Calderón de la Barca. Topics discussed include the role of reason in the play, Scholasticism in the play and in Europe, and the concept of free will and its use in "Life is a Dream."
