- Abstract
There are different species of Trichoderma with different characteristics. Trichoderma is a fungus that has developed mechanisms to attack and parasitize other fungi and thus take advantage of them as an additional nutritional source. This fungus is very common in the soil. Colonies are usually white and cottony at first, but when they reproduce under continuous light conditions, colonies are uniformly dark green. A collection of vegetative material was carried out in Tierra Blanca in the municipality of Tepetzintla, Veracruz, where the Trichoderma fungus was found growing on trunks of orange trees; therefore the objective of this study was to identify the Trichoderma species associated with orange tree trunks. The isolation of the fungus was carried out, in which the culture medium of Potato Dextrose Agar (PDA) was used, after observing the growth of the pathogen, the purification of the pathogen was carried out, when the fungus completely filled the Petri dish with the medium of the PDA culture, we proceeded to identify the genus of the microorganism. The identification of the species was obtained by sending a sample of the fungus to a laboratory specialized in fungal identification using molecular techniques. According to the morphological characteristics and the analysis with molecular techniques, the fungus associated with orange trunks was identified as Trichoderma longibrachiatum.
