- Abstract
A series of changes occurring in patients with maxillary complete dentures and mandibular removable (Cl I of Kennedy- Applegate) partial dentures can adversely affect the prosthetic stability. This disease is described in the literature under the designation "combination syndrome". Although recognized by many practitioners, the number of clinical observations and studies, especially with a long-term monitoring does not reflect the importance that deserves this pathological situation. Awareness of combination syndrome is important in establishing a prevention strategy every time we see the evidence of clinical signs. For practitioners and patients preventive treatment remains the ideal solution to avoid the implementation of complex therapeutic and sometimes with a disappointing result. The purpose of this article is to review the clinical and etiopathogenic aspects, so as to guide the dentist in establishing a thoughtful treatment plan, but essentially to implement all the preventive measures that keep changing to this ultimate prosthetic combination.
