- Abstract
The article presents a qualitative study which describes the ways that first-grade children make meaning with wordless picturebooks through play as reader response. It explores the childhood's culture through children's imaginative worlds of story and play. It argues that children's playful responses to wordless picturebooks can support literacy development in the classroom.
