- Abstract
This article presents a video view of elementary school guidance. In an attempt to explain to teachers, parents, and others the role of the elementary guidance counselor, the article authors have developed videotapes dealing with the services of this specialist. As an outgrowth of a pilot program within an elementary school of 600 students in New Jersey, topics for exploration were determined by an elementary guidance team. The first tape to be added to the school district library is entitled "Counselor/ Teacher and Parent Conferences." This 25-minute tape is used by classroom teachers as a source of information. By observing techniques demonstrated by the counselor in simulated situations, the teacher is provided with a sampling of procedures used successfully in communicating with parents. School principals use this tape as a springboard for faculty in-service discussions and evaluations. As a community service, it is used on local cable TV to demonstrate to the community the importance of parent-teacher conferences.
