Focuses on the investigation of the image of the public affairs officer (PAO) role as seen by the commander, by the working press an by non-PAO officer colleagues. Development of a rating scale instrument refined through factor analysis as a procedure requirement of the study; Development of thirty-five statements from a close reading of Army publications discussing the role of the PAO; Conclusion that public relations practitioners tend to assigned slightly higher status to newsmen in general than to their own occupational category.
