- Abstract
This article reports that a path analysis test of the attributional model of depression was conducted in a naturalistic achievement setting. According to cognitive theories of depression, people's interpretations of their life experiences play an important role in both the emergence and the consequences of depressive affect. A number of studies have assessed the validity of the attributional approach to depression. These studies are largely supportive of the cognitive approach to depression. To summarize, the purpose of the present study was to trace the sequential cause-and-effect network of relationships posited by the attributional model of depression.
