- Title
ECOLOGY OF THE PURPLE HEATH GRASS (MOLINIA CAERULEA).
- Authors
Jefferies, T. A.
- Abstract
This article discusses the ecology of the purple heath grass, Molinia caerulea, in a small area on the moors six miles from Huddersfield, England. Most of the land is covered with Molinia, which is forming tussocks. But in the southern section, a large area is covered with almost pure Molinia with a surface as smooth as a meadow. In the upper part of Drop Clough, the shallow valley is covered with Molinia sward. The valley slopes show a striking contrast. Its northern part is wet and covered with Molinia, while the southern part is dry and filled with ridges bearing Vaccinium myrtillus and Calluna.
