- Abstract
Functional neurological disorder (FND) is a neurological condition characterized by genuine and disabling symptoms despite a normal nervous system. Patients with FND often face misdiagnosis, delayed diagnosis, and inappropriate treatments, leading to poor outcomes. The process of revising a diagnosis for FND can be challenging, as it may conflict with patients' prior perceptions and treatments. A new protocol called REFINE is introduced to manage the complexities of diagnostic revision in FND, offering a tailored approach within the framework of personalized medicine. The REFINE framework includes rethinking the diagnosis, engaging patients in the process, filtering symptoms, involving a multidisciplinary team, navigating the revision process with patients, and educating both patients and medical professionals about FND. This approach aims to ensure accurate diagnoses, effective treatment plans, and empathetic patient care.
