- Abstract
Elaboration of the treatment plan was based both on the main - prophylactic and curative - principles in force and on the clinical expression of the biological indices, in view of their immediate melioration and - where possible - positivation, for long-term treatments. Well-documented studies have shown that the correctly designed, fabricated and maintained partially mobile prostheses may grant aesthetic and functional advantages on long term, and minimum negative consequences. Extracoronal attachments represent the maintenance, support and stabilization elements that assure both an obviously superior aesthetics than when using clasps, as well as a higher biomechanical equilibrium when the main selection principles on which the design of the skeletal prosthesis are observed. A large variety of extracoronary maintenance systems are now in use, with most various forms, size and architecture. The patient should be convinced of the importance of a very good oral hyigiene condition and should be periodically checked in the dental office as to the hygienic procedures applied and also for prompt interventions if complications appear.
