- Abstract
The article focuses on a study which examined the ability of rabbit hemorrhagic disease virus (RHDV) to recognize histo-blood group antigens (HBGAs) expressed on epithelia. To detect RHDV, the study used monoclonal antibody 2G3, biotinylated anti-mouse immunoglobulin G and peroxidase conjugated avidin. Results of the study showed that all RHDV strains have binded to the B type 2 epitope, while most of the strains recognized the human saliva samples. It also found that the G4 and G5 strains had a clear preference for A secretors over B and O secretors. It observed that the first step of the infection process was attachment of HBGAs of human calicivirus strains.
