- Title
Taking Education Seriously: The Ongoing Challenge.
- Authors
Biesta, Gert
- Abstract
In this article, Gert Biesta responds to three papers that address fundamental issues in educational theory and scholarship. Biesta emphasizes the importance of understanding the distinctiveness of education and the role of the educator. He argues that learning and development theories are insufficient for understanding education and that the focus should be on subjectification, which involves the formation of individuals as subjects. Biesta suggests that educational psychology should approach education from the perspective of the educator and engage with subjectification as an existential matter. He concludes by highlighting the ongoing challenge of taking education seriously in everyday practice.
