- Title
VÁCLAV KLAUS AND THE REINCARNATION OF THE HUSSITE STIGMA.
- Authors
Esperza, Daniel
- Abstract
The article discusses the international rejection of Czech Republic on the political scene due to the Euroscepticism of President Václav Klaus. The Euroscepticism of the country resulted to having a negative image in the Western mass media, which is generally Europeanistic. Euroscepticism, which was portrayed by Klaus when he delayed the signing of the Lisbon Treaty due to his imagined war against Brussels, Belgium, was rooted on the old British Empire, which provides an alternative to the European Union (EU) project. The similarities of the approach of Klaus to the EU and Hussite Stigma, a stigma related to the frustration of not being understood by the outside world when the small nation offered some global contribution, are also mentioned.
