- Abstract
The article discusses the historical imprint of Europe in the contemporary global civilization. The identity of Europe was built over centuries through cultural and political developments, and its successful expansion is connected with the Enlightenment, liberalism and religious tolerance. A cultural and philosophical imprint was left by Europe not just because of its history of colonialism, but also of its framework of state institutions that is used as basis by the contemporary civilization. The imprints of the European culture include language, such as the use of French by black Africans, and intellectual pathways for interpreting the world.
