- Abstract
An article is presented that discusses the impact of disasters on child development and child psychology. Natural and man-made disasters cause psychic trauma in children who are directly and indirectly involved, often leading to lifelong problems related to behavior and mental health. The article discusses post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) in children, as well as depression and anxiety as effects of being a disaster victim. Information is also provided on psychological issues such as adjustment, vulnerability, adaptability, and resilience related to events including war, tsunamis, and terrorism.
