- Abstract
The article discusses the use of FIDIC forms of contract in construction projects in Qatar. The FIDIC Red Book form of contract is commonly used for projects executed by the government and public entities, while the Yellow Book form is used when the contractor is responsible for both design and construction. The Green Book form has been used for major projects like the Hamad International Airport. The FIDIC contracts are usually adopted in Arabic for contracts with government entities, but English versions are also popular. Qatari law imposes certain mandatory provisions that cannot be contracted out of, such as limitations on pre-agreed damages and strict liability for defects. Dispute boards are infrequently used in Qatar, and arbitration is commonly used as the final stage of dispute resolution, with the ICC and QICCA rules being popular choices.
