- Title
Implementing Accountable Care Organizations.
- Authors
Singer, Sara; Shortell, Stephen M.
- Abstract
The authors discuss the potential mistakes that can be made by organizations as they become accountable care organizations (ACOs). The U.S. Affordable Care Act defines ACOs as an early initiative in health care reform responsible for care cost and quality intended for certain patient populations. The authors cite overestimation of the ability in risk management as one of the mistakes. They also mention the failure of ACOs in urging patients to engage in self-care management and self-determination.
