- Abstract
The author comments on the application of a neuromodulatory technique known as deep brain stimulation (DBS) to treat certain brain-related problems and psychiatric disorders such as depression and obsessive-compulsive disorders. DBS is described as a pacemaker for the brain. The efficacy and safety of DBS is assessed. The author calls for the implementation and enforcement of ethical guidelines for DBS protocols and standard practices.
