- Abstract
Objective. To analyze, using data from Encuesta Nacional de Salud y Nutrición (Ensanut) 2018 and Ensanut Continua 2022, the quality of care provided at different stages of life in the Mexican health system. Materials and methods. The health system was classified into three subsystems, two public and one private. Weighted percentages were estimated from each survey for selected indicators of care at different stages of life. Results. In the three subsystems, deficiencies in the care process persist in prenatal care, delivery resolution, vaccination at birth, use of antibiotics for acute respiratory infections in children, and screening for risk factors and complications, and underprescribed insulin in adults with diabetes, despite the increase in the length of medical visits. The preference for care in private services was due to proximity and promptness of care. Conclusions. The low quality of care in Mexico's health care system requires innovative strategies aimed at providing comprehensive care throughout the life course.
