- Abstract
A biography of African American Methodist evangelist Emma Ray, born in 1859, is presented. It comments on her religious conversion and sanctification and her shift to the Free Methodist Church. The author comments on her racial uplift work in Kansas City, Missouri, and her involvement in interracial cooperation in Seattle, Washington. Her relationship with husband L. P. Ray and his struggles with alcoholism are also considered.
