- Authors
Izquierdo García, Natalia; Villa Estébanez, Rubén
- Abstract
The article focuses on odynophagia and streptococcal pharyngotonsillitis. The most common causes of odynophagia are mentioned, with 70% being of viral origin and 5-10% caused by group A beta-hemolytic streptococcus (GABHS). The importance of identifying pharyngitis that requires specific antibiotic treatment is emphasized. Clinical prediction rules are presented to estimate the probability of streptococcal infection. Rapid antigen detection tests and antibiotic treatment are recommended to be avoided in cases of suspected viral infection. The article mentions several bibliographic references related to the clinical diagnosis of streptococcal pharyngitis, which may be useful for those researching the topic.
