- Title
AMBIVALENT ALLIES: Social Democratic Regimes and Social Movements.
- Authors
Carroll, William K.; Ratner, R. S.
- Abstract
The article discusses the aspects of social democratic regimes and social movements in Vancouver, British Columbia. According to Smith, a social movement is commonly defined as a relatively durable, extra-parliamentary ensemble of groups that seeks to transform the values and institutions of society. The author states that social movements upheld the value of democratizing responsibility and recognized the value of a strong political voice in parliament. The author concludes that it is important to recognize that building a counter-hegemonic bloc requires linking local, regional, national, and international, and international groups into a transnational historic bloc.
