- Abstract
The article focuses on the results of several studies related to nicotine and tobacco use. A review of the efficacy and real-world effectiveness studies of first-line therapies indicates that 10 to 30 percent of health care practitioners prescribe or recommend nicotine replacement therapy (NRT) or other pharmacotherapies to pregnant women who smoke. One study that examined the link between the two variants of the TaqIA gene and smokers' motives and cravings found genetic variations in the smokers' reported motives.
