- Title
VARANIDAE.
- Abstract
The article discusses the feeding behavior of two Nile monitors (Varanus niloticus), the largest lizards in Africa, observed in mid-February 2008 along the Sabie River in Kruger National Park. It reports that one monitor was using its body and tail to herd the fish into the shallow edge of the pool then snaps the fish whole when it jumps over its back while the other monitor remained on the side of the pool smelling the air with its tongue. It cites that the interaction between the two monitors poses questions of cooperation or proto-cooperation.
