- Abstract
With respect to the Umayyad first period political life, it is possible to observe the impacts of Hz. Aisha (r. anha). Hind binti Utbe led a life out of sight when her son had a career within the realm of the state, and it was concluded that she did not get involved in state affairs. Contrary to the age of ignorance, the decrease in the effectiveness of Hind bint Utbe, after the conquest of Mecca, is directly related to her activities before she became a Muslim. She made one of the well-known women in Islamic history: She was the mother of Hz. Muawiya, the caliph of the first dynastic state of Islam. As a matter of fact, with the Umayyads turning the caliphate into the sultanate, the Muslim woman could now be both the wife of the caliph and the mother of the caliph. It was inevitable for a woman of this status to influence the caliph. In addition, the marriage contracts made with different tribes other than the Quraysh made the Umayyad harem much more political. In this study; developments regarding women from the period of Muhammad (pbuh) to the period of the first two caliphs of the Umayyads were analyzed, and the effects of the change in the system on the political position of women were examined.
