- Title
Hospitality and Friendship: Interrupting Violence and Building Sustainable Peace in Ukraine.
- Authors
MCCARTHY, ELI S.
- Abstract
Regarding the Russian invasion in Ukraine, the themes of hospitality and friendship are pivotal to interrupt the dynamic of violence and build a sustainable just peace. In relation to those in the struggle, such as refugees, and to adversaries, hospitality challenges us to recognize their dignity, the good they embody, the piece of the truth in the conflict they can offer, and their deeper needs. The theme of friendship draws us to accompany those in danger or struggle. Friendship is a river that invites the friend or potential friend to enter a mutual process of self-reflection, growth, and restorative justice approaches.
