- Abstract
The paper under scrutiny proposes a new way of thin sheet material's rigidity increase. To achieve this, laser radiation is exposed to the formation of additional metallurgical stiffening ribs, which are the parts of the material, in which the location and deformed state are determined by the distribution of elastic stresses, arising due to the applied external load. We show that laser heating is the most efficient way to control and manage the direction and value of residual stresses at these local spots, as well as their configuration and location. By changing the distribution of power density on the focusing plane, it is possible to obtain the desired distribution of isotherms along the sheet's depth, and, consequently, to obtain the given distribution of residual stresses.
